Mini Tournament Friday 31st October 2014‏

As it was half term and not everyone are around for coaching we had a mini tournament.

In the first session there was a ‘round robin’ of two groups and the winner went straight into the final. Thomas Hurst and Cory Wild were the winners in each group so they played each other in the final. Cory aged just 9 years old beat Thomas Hurst aged 10 in a very close match which went to three very close games. In a consolation final Josh Dalton beat James Bennett.

In the second session there were greater numbers so winners out of four groups progressed to the semi-final stage. Adam Kenzitt aged 14 faced Nathan Faun aged 11. Adam plays in the Bury and Hyndburn Local Leagues and in the Table Tennis England Junior League. Nathan has yet to play in any League but will be making his debut in the Table Tennis England Cadet League later this month. The experience showed and it was Adam who booked his place into the final by a winning score of 11-4, 11-4.

In the other semi-final Harry Bell aged 13 played his Bury League teammate Max Brooks, aged 15. It has to be said that Harry, Max and Adam have made significant improvement in their games this season which is showed at local league level with them heading division 4 with an unbeaten score line. Adam is also top of the averages with the most wins so far this season. Back to the semi-final and it was Max who took the first game 11-7 with few defensive shots being played. Harry made a great comeback to taken the match into a third and final game when he won the second game in a very tense 15-13 to Harry. This spurred Harry on to take the third game with comparative ease winning 11-5.

The final was the best of 5 and Adam seemed to have the upper hand in the match and won fairly easily thanks to some wayward points from Harry. Adam won 4,6 and 7 to win the second session mini tournament.
