Adam Kenzitt aged just fourteen travelled to Garstang last Sunday to play in the North West Regional Qualifying round for the Table Tennis England National Cadet Championship. The Competition was for boys aged between eleven and fourteen. Competition was tough with the highest ranked player at number 71 in England. Adam’s ranking is 189 but will rise significantly when Sunday’s results are added.
In the morning session Adam won one and lost three. He had two games going to deuce and lost them both.
In the afternoon Adam fared slightly better with two wins and two losses. There were three games that went to deuce and won two of them. So Adams game, at times was very close to much higher ranked players.
Adam is travelling to Blackpool in November playing in another ranking tournament. Accompanying Adam will be Harry Bell whose current ranking is at 176 but didn’t play on Sunday.
The Academy have entered in the Table Tennis England Junior League on Sunday and Adam teams up with Max Brooks. Max plays with Adam in the local Bury and District League. Dominic Siddall is the third player. He started his table tennis in the Academy. Dominic is aged sixteen and won the Bury Junior Championship two seasons ago. Though Adam still qualifies by age to play in the Cadet League Max and Dominic are older and would not qualify to play. They decided to play in the Junior League in order that they could play together. Harry Bell is in the squad and all four players will rotate in the four fixtures and will each have played in three.
There are four divisions and the Academy trio are in Division three. They play five matches so they will have a busy day.
Adam, Harry and Max also play in the local Bury and District Table Tennis League. Last season they finished mid table in division five but with all of their games showed significant improvement they asked to go a division higher. After five matches they are in second place three points behind Shawfield C who they play on Thursday this week. Adam shares joint top position in the individual sets won having played fifteen and won twelve. Max has played twelve and won ten. Harry has played fifteen and won seven. In the doubles they have won three out of five.
